The Dallas Mavericks are off to an 8-4 start to the 2021-2022 season, but detractors will be quick to remind fans that it has been an easy schedule so far. They are 2-3 against teams .500 or better on the morning of Nov. 13. The Mavs are taking care of business against lesser opponents, but have been blown out four times in the first 12.

Superstar Luka Doncic finally had his first otherworldly performance on Nov. 12 as he went for 32 points, 15 assists, and 12 rebounds in San Antonio. It has been a slow start by Doncic’s standards, and yet Dallas is still 8-4.

Their record should not paper over the fact that the Mavs need to upgrade their roster. They have had virtually the same team since trading for Kristaps Porzingis and Tim Hardaway Jr. back in 2019. A refresh is necessary, but who could Dallas acquire?

The Mavs have some clear flaws in their roster. They do not have enough playmaking and shot creation behind superstar Luka Doncic, and there are starting lineup issues because head coach Jason Kidd does not want to play KP at the five full-time. Dallas should be in the market for a center and a ball-handler before the trade deadline.

Here are two recent Dallas Mavericks trade ideas worth looking at to decide if the front office should pass or pursue them. These are hypothetical deals and not rumors of any kind. Let us take a closer look.
