The Dallas Mavericks played some of their best basketball down the stretch to earn the No. 5 seed in the loaded Western Conference Playoffs.

Dallas won 16 of its final 20 regular-season games and have a lot of momentum heading into the postseason. Oddsmakers concur with the surging Mavericks’ chances at a deep playoff run as the squad is getting a lot of love in the futures market.

Mavericks NBA Championship odds

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Dallas is tied with its first-round opponent, the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Milwaukee Bucks as the third favorite to win the NBA Finals at +1500 ($100 bet wins $1,500). Those odds carry an implied probability of 6.25% that Dallas will win the NBA Finals for the first time since Rick Carlisle’s club, led by Dirk Nowitzki, took out the Miami Heat in 2011.

The championship futures board is dominated by the favorite Boston Celtics at +165 and the reigning-champion Nuggets +300 as the clear-cut top-2 to win it all, according to FanDuel.

Dallas hasn’t been back to the NBA Finals since then, though Jason Kidd’s club went to the conference finals just two years ago. Dallas is also tied with the Clippers as the third-favorite to win the west and go to the NBA Finals at +650 (13.33% implied probability).

Dallas a small favorite in 1st-round playoff series vs. Clippers

With Dallas and Los Angeles right next to one another in the futures market for this postseason, it’s no surprise that the first-round matchup between the two teams is lined at virtually a coin flip. As of Wednesday, Dallas is a small favorite on FanDuel to beat the Clippers at -138 ($100 bet wins $72.46), which is an implied probability of 57.98% that the Mavericks will advance to the second round.

Dallas opens the first round at Crypto.com Arena on Sunday night as a one-point road favorite against the Clippers in Game 1 of the series. Dallas was the best ATS team in the NBA on the road this season, going 27-14, including an absurd 19-4 ATS mark as a road favorite. The Clippers went 18-23 ATS at home during the regular season.
