The Dallas Mavericks are not the only ones gearing up for a special season. The NBA is celebrating its 75th anniversary and has several special things planned. Mavs GOAT Dirk Nowitzki will serve as a special ambassador to the league in part of the celebration.

Fans have seen a small glimpse of what the NBA is planning with the short film NBA Lane. Dirk was one of many players featured in what was a mix of legends and current stars.

Nowitzki was spotted learning Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s signature skyhook in the film. The NBA gave fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse of that on Oct. 13, and here is a closer look.

There is no better player to help the NBA celebrate its 75th anniversary than Dirk Nowitzki. The Mavericks legend changed the game of basketball. He is currently sixth all-time in scoring, third in minutes played, and fourth in games, but beyond that, Dirk is a fantastic person. He helped make it a global game and continues to make a massive impact with his charitable efforts both in Dallas and worldwide.

Nowitzki is back with the Mavericks organization as a special advisor to owner Mark Cuban. The Tall Baller from the G had a hand in picking the team's new head coach Jason Kidd and general manager Nico Harrison. Fans are excited about his role with the organization, but that may not be the only thing about Dirk that gets their juices flowing this year.

Owner Mark Cuban has talked about having Nowitzki’s jersey retirement and statue unveiling at some point this season. They are still working out the details, but that night will be a can't miss game for all Dallas Mavericks fans. Stay tuned for all the latest on Dirk Nowitzki and the team at The Smoking Cuban.
