The Dallas Mavericks acquired Dirk Nowitzki in a 1998 draft-night trade. The 20-year-old from Germany was the ninth overall pick and few expected the two decades of greatness that was to come. Nowitzki became one of the best scorers in NBA history, led the Mavs to the 2011 championship, and remains a legend on and off the court.

Dirk returned to the Mavericks organization this summer as a special advisor to owner Mark Cuban. He had a hand in picking new head coach Jason Kidd and general manager Nico Harrison. Nowitzki also joined the team’s leadership on a trip to Slovenia to present Luka Doncic with his historic contract extension. Dirk being back with the Mavs is a massive win for the organization.
