Dallas Mavericks depth chart heading into training camp: Lead guards
This position group feels set in stone for the Mavs with injury being the only thing that will change it during training camp.
Starter: Luka Doncic
Doncic enters the final season of his rookie contract as a top-five player in the NBA. What did he add to his game this offseason, and can he win his first MVP award before his historic extension kicks in next summer? Luka will be looking to lead the Mavericks to their first 50-win season since 2015 and on the deep playoff run that Dallas has not seen since winning the title in 2011.
Backup: Jalen Brunson
The Mavs are hoping Brunson took a step forward in commanding the offense this offseason as the team struggled to score in the playoffs when Luka needed a rest. Their offensive rating of 83.0 without Doncic was part of the reason the 22-year-old superstar wore down late in games against the Clippers. JB plans to be in the running for Sixth Man of the Year as he puts up career-best numbers.
Third-string: Trey Burke
Burke will be the third-string point guard and microwave scoring option off the bench for new head coach Jason Kidd. The 28-year-old played in 62 of the Mavericks' 72 regular-season games last year. Will he see that much action again?
