Will Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd use the team’s best lineups?
Coach Kidd is going to experiment with lineups in the early going. Every new coach does as they search for groups that work well together. Maybe, the lineup of Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr., Dorian Finney-Smith, and Reggie Bullock does not perform, but it appears to be the team’s best option on paper.
If Kidd decides to use that unit, he will need to commit to having the team space the floor. The Mavericks star duo can run pick and rolls as the other three players spot-up beyond the 3-point line. It will create lanes for Luka to carve up the defense as the unit performs well on both ends of the floor.
Kidd will also have to be willing to use KP at the five. He has made it clear that views the Unicorn as a power forward, but the Mavs centers struggled in the opener. Would the team perform better with three wings surrounding Doncic and Porzingis? Time will tell.
Fans had high hopes heading into Jason Kidd’s Mavs coaching debut, especially after the team was undefeated in the preseason, but the Hawks dashed them quickly. Will the Dallas Mavericks bounce back? Yes, but it could take some time to get comfortable in Kidd’s scheme. Supporters will certainly be watching closely.
