Magic vs. Mavericks NBA expert prediction and odds for Monday, Jan. 29 (Can Dallas cover?)

Betting odds, pick and prediction for the Dallas Mavericks' matchup with the Orlando Magic on Monday night.

The Dallas Mavericks are favored on Monday night against the Orlando Magic, but they won’t have guard Kyrie Irving in action.

Orlando pulled off an upset at home over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday, but the team has struggled as of late – especially since Franz Wagner went down with an injury. He’s since returned, but Orlando is just 3-7 straight up in its last 10 games.

Can the Magic cover the spread on the road, or will Dallas cruise to a win at home?

Magic vs. Mavericks key players to watch

Orlando Magic

Paolo Banchero: The reigning Rookie of the Year, Banchero had a big game on Sunday in a win over the Phoenix Suns. He scored 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting, dished out seven dimes, and picked up four rebounds. Banchero can further his potential All-Star campaign with another strong showing on Monday.

Dallas Mavericks

Luka Doncic: After scoring 73 points against the Atlanta Hawks, Doncic came back to earth and shot just 9-for-26 in a loss to the Sacramento Kings. The Mavericks rely heavily on Luka – especially when Kyrie Irving is out. In 17 without Irving this season, Doncic is averaging 37.1 points, 11.1 assists, and 9.1 rebounds per game.

Magic vs. Mavericks prediction and pick

I don’t love either side in this matchup, but I lean toward the Mavericks at home since the Magic are just 9-15 away from home this season.

Dallas is over .500 at home, and while the team hasn’t been great as a home favorite (7-8 ATS) the Magic also haven’t been great on the second night of back-to-backs, going 4-5 ATS.

Orlando’s shooting is a major concern in this game, as the team doesn’t shoot the 3 well, ranking dead last in the NBA in 3-point percentage.

This is a clash of styles, as Dallas loves to push the ball and shoot the 3, hitting 15.3 shots from deep per game – No. 2 in the NBA.

If the Mavericks have a hot shooting night, the Magic are going to have a hard time keeping up. Plus, Orlando has struggled lately, going 3-7 straight up and 4-6 ATS in its last 10 games.
