Luka Doncic 34-point triple-double not enough as Mavericks fall to Magic
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half, but they fell just short in a 110-108 loss to the Orlando Magic on Jan. 30. Superstar Luka Doncic led the way for the shorthanded Mavs with his eighth 30-point game of the season. Dallas did not have Kristaps Porzingis or Tim Hardaway Jr. and was playing on the second of a back-to-back as they fell just short in Orlando.
The Magic struggled to stop Luka on Sunday night as he shook off plenty of bumps and bruises to have one of his best performances of the season. Doncic finished with 34 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, and one steal in 37 minutes of action. He went 13 of 22 from the field, including four 3-pointers, but it was not enough.
Luka wanted to put on a show against former Mavericks assistant and current Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley. The two worked out together during Mosley’s time in Dallas, so here is a closer look at his impressive performance before pivoting to what is next.
Luka Doncic 34-point triple-double not enough as Dallas Mavericks fall to Magic
It was a 41-point second quarter that put Orlando in front, but the Mavericks came back in the second half with defense. They are committed on that end of the floor and stops were key in the victory. See Luka step up before going coast to coast for an easy bucket.
Luka had his first 30-point triple-double of the 2021-2022 season, but it was the 19th one of his career. He has five triple-doubles in his last 12 games and tied Fat Lever for tenth all-time with his 43rd.
Fans are used to Doncic putting up these incredible numbers, but just 28 players have a triple-double this season. It was another impressive line from Luka, but the 22-year-old is just starting to hit his stride.
The Dallas Mavericks will have to wait a few days to bounce as they are back in action on Wednesday night against the rebuilding Thunder. Fans can expect another incredible night from Luka Doncic as the Mavs look to get back on track. Do not miss it.
