Luka Doncic pockets 100k in wild bet with Mavericks teammate
By Noah Weber
Dallas Mavericks basketball is officially back today.
After having 112 days of no Mavs basketball, they'll return to the American Airlines Center floor tonight to battle the Memphis Grizzlies. Mavs fans are fired up for the new-look squad to take the floor, and their excitement was on full display on Sunday for Fan Jam.
Fan Jam is an annual open scrimmage that the Mavs put on at the American Airlines Center, and it was an excellent turnout. The entire lower bowl was packed, and although not much should be taken from an inter-squad scrimmage, several players showed flashes of what was to come this season.
Naji Marshall's passing and ability to handle the ball in space were huge standouts to fans from this scrimmage, and Quentin Grimes' scoring off the dribble was solid. Grimes showed everyone that he is much more than a 3-and-D guard and has a full offensive bag, but the play of the day came from someone who wasn't even playing.
Doncic hustles Lively II with crazy trick shot for 100k
Luka Doncic coached in this game rather than playing as he is out with a calf contusion, but he ended the afternoon with an absolute bang.
As everyone knows, Doncic loves shooting trick shots. He ends every pregame workout with half-court shots, and he tries to make wild shots during pregame warmups often. This is just part of who he is, and he made one of his craziest trick shots yet at the end of Fan Jam.
Doncic drilled a hook shot that was almost from the full length of the floor, and Dereck Lively II's reaction says it all. It looked like Lively II and Doncic were chatting before Doncic took the shot, and Doncic responded to a tweet asking how much Lively II lost with "100k."
This is likely an exaggeration and a playful joke from Doncic to his teammate, and the vibes from these two are always positive. It's easy to tell that they got close over the last year of playing together, and they seem to have a good relationship heading into this season.
Lively II's performance will be huge for Dallas moving forward, as his development alongside Doncic will be crucial in them remaining in NBA Finals conversations. They are two of the cornerstones of this franchise, and them continuing to grow chemistry and improve will be vital for the Mavs to continue to rise in the Western Conference standings.
Lively II is already a fan favorite, even after playing just one season, and he and Doncic's fun bet before the season begins shows how close they truly are. This duo is always having fun, and Lively II will have the chance to show fans how much he's improved tonight against Memphis.
