2. Limit sloppy turnovers
Boston is already a pretty strong transition team, especially when they have numbers on offense and move the ball effectively for good looks. The Mavericks cannot afford sloppy turnovers on their end.
While the turnover difference wasn't huge, with Dallas having 15 compared to Boston's 11, the type of turnovers in certain parts of the game have been deadly.
With just over four minutes to go and Dallas down by eight points with the ball, in order to avoid an eight-second violation, Doncic was forced to heave the basketball toward mid-court to P.J. Washington and threw it in the hands of Boston guard Derrick White.
Boston guard Jrue Holiday hit a three on the other end and just killed any momentum that Dallas had at that point whenever they were inching closer on a potential comeback.
There were two instances in the Game 1 loss in which Boston guard Jaylen Brown got two easy dunks off of bad turnovers. These plays are preventable, and you can't give free points to Boston.
Dallas must clean up the turnovers, especially in their own backcourt. Doncic knows he has to clean up his turnovers too, and this is another one of the things that he brought up after Game 2 that must be better.
If Doncic can take better care of the ball in Game 3 and beyond, Dallas has a much better shot of taking down Boston.
