Luka Doncic closes gap on Stephen Curry: 2nd among West guards in All-Star voting
By Tyler Watts
Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has garnered more than 4.9 million All-Star fan votes, according to the latest release on Jan. 19. Fans can still vote until Saturday, Jan. 21 at 10:59 p.m. CT. Doncic is second among West guards in the voting, but can he close the gap on Stephen Curry?
Curry has over 5.1 million votes, and he sits over 246,000 ahead of Luka heading into the final days. Mavericks fans must get out and vote if they want number 77 to be the top vote-getter among Western Conference guards.
Doncic is fifth overall in the voting with LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo on pace to be captains in this year’s game. The fan voting only accounts for 50 percent of the starter’s vote with the media and players each getting 25 percent. Will Luka start his third All-Star game in 2023?

Doncic is the league’s leading scorer, and he will comfortably finish second among West guards in fan voting. The starters will be announced on Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. CT on TNT, and Luka will be one of the ten players selected. He will likely win the media and fan vote to secure his fourth All-Star appearance and third start.
In his first three All-Star games, Doncic has been on Team LeBron, and fans should expect King James to again select the Mavericks superstar. LeBron has won all three All-Star games with Luka on his team. Can they make it four straight in Utah on Feb. 19?
It will be interesting to see if Luka Doncic decides to take part in the Skills Challenge on All-Star Saturday night. He competed in both 2019 and 2021 but was not part of the event last season. Doncic had fun with his appearance in 2021, despite an early exit from the competition.
Dallas Mavericks fans should be excited for All-Star weekend. Luka Doncic will be taking part, and it should be a ton of fun. Do not miss it.
