Star player Luka Doncic should be recruiting right now: 4. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
SGA is just starting a five-year rookie max extension, but how long before the 24-year-old wants out of Oklahoma City? He may be the best player that casual NBA fans do not know. Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 24.5 points, 5.9 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 0.8 blocks in 34.7 minutes per game last season. The 6’6 guard is an efficient shooter that would thrive with more talent around him.
SGA played in just two of the four games against the Mavericks last season, but he did score an easy 34 points with six rebounds, five dimes, and two steals in a two-point Mavs win on Jan. 17.
Gilgeous-Alexander can do a bit of everything, and he is the versatile two-way wing that every team wants. If the Thunder make him available, the trade market will go bananas. SGA is still improving, but already producing All-Star numbers, and he helped the Clippers and Thunder reach the playoffs in his first two NBA seasons.
The Mavs reached another level after trading Kristaps Porzingis for Spencer Dinwiddie at last season’s trade deadline. Dallas needed another ball-handler and playmaker that can get downhill and attack the defense, which is SGA’s specialty. He is one of the best drivers in the NBA, and he would pair fantastically with number 77.
The Thunder have been one of the worst teams in the league for two straight years, and they are likely to make it three this season. How much longer before Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wants out? Luka Doncic should be convincing him to come to Dallas right now.
