5 star players Luka Doncic should be recruiting right now
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks are ready for the 2022-23 season. Luka Doncic made his case for best player in the league in last year’s run to the conference finals, but the offseason did not go as planned in Dallas.
Jalen Brunson left in free agency, and the Mavs are figuring out how to fill the void. Spencer Dinwiddie has moved into the starting five, and the front office upgraded the team’s frontcourt. Can they make another deep playoff run? Do the Mavericks have enough talent to be true title contenders?
To keep Luka happy in Dallas long-term, the Mavs likely need a second star player. They can have all of their first-round picks available to trade after the 2023 NBA Draft, but can they acquire another star and keep them happy in Dallas? Doncic should be recruiting his running mate, and here are five players that he should focus on right now.
Star player Luka Doncic should be recruiting right now: 5. Draymond Green
The Warriors extending Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins likely means Green is entering his final season (subscription required) with the Dubs. Golden State’s luxury tax bill would push their payroll towards $500 million if they keep Green on next season’s player option. The 6’6 forward could opt out and take less money to stay in the Bay Area, but why would he?
Green is a four-time All-Star and former Defensive Player of the Year. He has struggled to stay healthy in two of the last three seasons, but the 32-year-old helped the Warriors win their fourth championship in eight years just last season.
Draymond Green may not be a traditional star player, but he would give Dallas an elite defender and playmaker to pair with Luka Doncic as the Mavericks looked to push their way into title contention. He may not be the most seamless fit, but Green’s talent is undeniable.
