The Dallas Mavericks are working on improving the roster around Luka Doncic as the 23-year-old superstar takes part in World Cup qualifying. Doncic was magical in Slovenia’s win over Croatia before they hit the road to face Sweden in Stockholm on July 3.

Sweden needed to win to keep their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup alive, and they played a fantastic game, but Luka was just a bit too much as Slovenia took the 84-81 victory. Dirk Nowitzki was in attendance and provided some comedy for fans.

Doncic stole the show on Sunday as he went off for 31 points, ten rebounds, six assists, and two steals in 36.0 minutes of action. He went ten of 20 from the field, including making four 3-pointers. It was another impressive night from Luka that featured plenty of highlights.

It was far from Slovenia’s best game, but Doncic was firing on all cylinders from the opening whistle. He had 12 points in the opening ten minutes, and he never looked back. Luka even got up for a dunk for the second straight game.

The Swedish fans were heckling Doncic when he went to the line on Sunday, and Dirk even joined in on the chants. See the hilarious clip below.

Slovenia advanced to the second round of European World Cup qualifying with the two victories, but they will have to win some games during the NBA season without Doncic to secure their spot in next year’s tournament. That won’t be easy, but Slovenia will be a feared opponent if they can punch their ticket to the World Cup.

Luka Doncic will now take some time off before gearing back up for training camp and September’s EuroBasket. Expect the 23-year-old superstar to do plenty of work on his game in the meantime, and it will be interesting to see what he adds for next season. Stay tuned to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest.
