The Dallas Mavericks have a massive week ahead with the draft and free agency on the horizon, but superstar Luka Doncic is busy elsewhere. He has been training in Slovenia as he prepares for their World Cup qualifiers beginning on June 30, but fans will be able to see him in action a bit sooner.
The Slovenian Basketball Association announced on Thursday that Luka has been cleared to play in the team’s exhibition against Italy on June 25. He is back working out with his national team on Thursday and preparing for Saturday’s game.
There was some question about Doncic’s availability because of insurance issues as his new contract with the Mavericks kicks in. It appears all of those roadblocks have been cleared in what will be a massive summer for the 23-year-old superstar.
Luka Doncic set to play in exhibition game vs. Italy on June 25
It will be interesting to see how much Luka plays in the exhibition. The Slovenian National Team wants him ready for the qualifiers, but there is no need to risk playing him heavy minutes, especially coming off his run to the Western Conference Finals.
Saturday’s exhibition kicks off at 1:30 p.m. CT, but there is no reported way to watch the game in the United States at this moment. FIBA’s YouTube channel streams live games, but no word yet if they will be airing the showdown between Slovenia and Italy.
Dallas Mavericks fans will be able to watch Slovenia’s World Cup qualifier against Croatia on June 30. Goran Dragic is back teaming with Luka Doncic for the important game in what could be a preview of next season’s Mavericks. Dallas is rumored to be interested in Dragic, and his free-agency will be something MFFLs should watch closely.
Luka Doncic will play in both of Slovenia’s World Cup qualifiers before taking a bit of time off. He will then gear back up to play in EuroBasket in September before joining the Mavericks for the NBA season. Stay tuned for all the latest.
