Could the secret new move from Luka Doncic be a right step back?

Doncic adding a skyhook on par with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar would be a deadly weapon, but the 23-year-old went to it four times in 18 postseason games. Sure, it is far from his go-to move, but it was already in Luka’s bag of tricks.

Number 77 has talked about adding an even more deadly weapon into his arsenal. Fans saw a few moments where he toyed with a right step back last season. Doncic was the league’s step-back king last season as he made 39.6 percent of his 270 attempts, but nearly all of those were going left. The ability to go right gives him a counter and keeps defenders from overplaying his left hand.

Adding a skyhook would be one thing, but becoming just as deadly by stepping back to his right as his left would take Luka’s offensive game to another level. There would be zero defending him in the halfcourt if he shots over 39 percent from 3-point range when he steps back to either side. The entire floor would be open for Doncic to get a bucket.
