The Dallas Mavericks are 10-10 to begin the 2022-23 season, but superstar Luka Doncic has been outstanding. He’s the league leader in scoring and currently sits atop the MVP race. Doncic has been unstoppable, but he needs more help.
The Mavs desperately need a third ball-handler and playmaker, so they signed Kemba Walker. The four-time All-Star has struggled with injuries in recent years, and he is not the same player that he was in Charlotte, but Dallas is hoping he can give them some quality minutes off the bench. Kemba won’t be a game-changer for the Mavericks, but he could help.
HoopsHype recently updated their trade value rankings, which look at which players have the most value. It is a top 100 list, but Luka Doncic was the only Maverick to make the cut.
Luka Doncic only Dallas Mavericks player in the top 100 of trade value ranks
Doncic landed second behind Giannis Antetokounmpo, and they look like the two best players in the league in the early going. Luka’s improved defense and unstoppable offensive game have him pushing for the title of the best player in the world right now.
To underscore that the Mavericks need to get number 77 more help, no other Maverick made the top 100. Dallas should have at least three players on the list if the talent was distributed evenly across the league. The Mavs have struggled to build around Luka, and they must do better moving forward.
The front office will have a massive opportunity after the 2023 draft. They will have all the future first-round picks to trade, and the Mavs must acquire a second star to pair with Luka. That is their path to becoming annual title contends, but can they make it happen?
HoopsHype updates its trade value rankings every few months, and the team’s lack of assets will not stop them from making calls before February’s deadline. The Dallas Mavericks are not trading Luka Doncic, but they could acquire him more help before the end of trade season. Stay tuned to find out.
