The Dallas Mavericks did not have superstar Luka Doncic playing at his peak at the start of the season after a short offseason that was filled with Olympic basketball. The 22-year-old is finally hitting his stride as he averages 26.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 9.5 assists, and 1.4 steals per game since returning from a ten-game absence on Jan. 2.

Luka was snubbed as an All-Star starter after opening the game for two straight years. The two-time first All-NBA selection got his nod on Thursday night.

The All-Star reserves were announced, and Doncic was a no-brainer selection. He is one of the best offensive creators in the league while helping his team bring a new level of energy and commitment to the defensive end of the floor. Here is a look at what is next to Doncic, and more on the impressive accomplishment.

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic selected as an All-Star for 3rd time

The starters were announced on Jan. 27 with LeBron James and Kevin Durant being selected as captains. The remaining All-Stars will be drafted by the two superstars on Feb. 10. Doncic has played and started for Team LeBron in each of the last two seasons. Expect King James to select him again next Thursday night.

The 2022 NBA All-Star game takes place on Feb. 20 in Cleveland, but there is a weekend full of activities. Luka could take part in the Skills Challenge, but fans will not find out until the participants for all the All-Star Saturday night are announced on Feb. 8.

Doncic becomes the Mavericks 33rd All-Star selection among ten different players. He joins Dirk Nowitzki, Rolando Blackman, and Mark Aguirre as the only Dallas players to be chosen to at least three All-Star squads. Blackman was a four-time All-Star with the Mavericks, and Dirk holds the franchise record with 14.

Luka Doncic is an All-Star for the third time in his career. Expect him to put on a show in Cleveland as he looks to prove that he deserved to start for the third straight year. Fans won’t want to miss the event as the NBA celebrates its 75th anniversary with Dirk Nowitzki playing a role in the festivities, so be sure to tune in and enjoy.
