Kyrie Irving sparks free agency rumors after sitting courtside for Lakers vs Grizzlies
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks need to re-sign Kyrie Irving this offseason. The eight-time All-Star is an unrestricted free agent, and things did not go as planned after he was traded to Dallas. Irving put up monster numbers, but the team lost 18 of their final 25 games to miss the postseason.
There are serious questions about Irving’s plans moving forward. The Mavs cannot let it happen, but there is a real possibility that Kyrie has already played his final game in Dallas. It would be disastrous for the franchise after they gave up three draft picks and two starters to acquire Irving. Luka Doncic wanted to play with another star, and Mavericks cannot afford to lose him after just two months.
Irving sparked rumors about his future on Friday night as he was sitting courtside for the Lakers' Game 6 against the Memphis Grizzlies in LA. Is this a sign that Kyrie will sign with the Lakers this summer?

Kyrie and LeBron have a long history together, including leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to the championship in 2016. Irving hit the series-clinching shot in that one, and LeBron has been recruiting his friend to LA for months.
Irving has interest in a reunion with James again, and the duo could make it happen this summer. The Lakers will not have cap space, but they could pull off a sign-and-trade for Kyrie. The Mavericks would at least get something in return in that scenario, but it would still be disastrous for the Mavs.
Kyrie Irving sitting courtside in Los Angeles does not change much. The Dallas Mavericks knew they were going to have to outbid the Lakers to re-sign the eight-time All-Star this summer. It brought back memories of Knicks brass sitting courtside in Dallas watching Jalen Brunson in last season’s playoffs. Fans know how that one turned out, but there is no guarantee that Irving is on the move.
LA is a serious threat, and the eight-time All-Star will have other suitors. The unrestricted free agent will be able to choose his landing spot, and the Mavericks must convince him that Dallas is the best place for him.
Will Kyrie Irving head to the Lakers this summer? The Dallas Mavericks can offer more years and more dollars, but will that be enough? Stay tuned to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest.
