The Dallas Mavericks made a splash in free agency this summer when they made the biggest move in franchise history. The team signed shooter Klay Thompson to a three-year, $50 million deal through a sign-and-trade that sent Josh Green to the Charlotte Hornets.

The move was seen as a plus for Mavs' fans. For starters, it put the team on notice. It always seemed for the longest, that free agents strayed away from Dallas or found a reason not to sign with the team. That narrative changed though with the addition of Thompson. Even before his signing, Dallas was able to re-sign NBA champion Kyrie Irving last summer. This proves the point.

However, the main storyline was the Mavericks found a third scoring option to pair along Irving and Luka Doncic. Thompson's addition allows gives Dallas one of the top 10 3-point shooters in NBA history. He has converted 41.3 percent of his career 3-point attempts. Thompson has averaged above 16 points per game in 10 of his 11 seasons. In simple terms, this was a steal for the Mavs.

Klay Thompson proves he's still got it in recent pro runs

The plan is for Thompson to become the team's starting small forward. Thompson sees the Mavs as a championship-caliber team, and he joined them to have the best shot of winning his fifth ring. The newest Mav hopes to add to the narrative and show he can perform at a high level.

In a recent video clip, Thompson knocked down his long-range attempts with ease and converted highly contested shots. He was playing at these runs with other NBA players such as Chet Holmgren and Rob Dillingham.

He could also be seen dunking the ball and knocking down his shots with a quick release. This is a different picture from last month. It wasn't too long ago fans were questioning his performance. They called Thompson "cooked" and questioned his ability to play at a high level. He was being judged in a simple pickup game.

ESPN too questioned the signing of Thompson. The sports network graded Dallas a B- this offseason (subscription required). They questioned Thompson's ability to return to his old form. The network stated that he has not been himself since returning from injuries two seasons ago. His shot lapses and inability to perform as a starter were questioned.

The video above though justifies that Thompson is getting back to his old self. You can see how comfortable he is shooting the ball. Not to mention, he didn't seem to show any pain when dunking the ball. The biggest thing was his emotion. Thompson seemed content and happy to be playing without any setbacks.

Now, all Thompson has to do is show up when it matters most. He must show Mavs fans he can still perform at a high level and be the perfect guy to help elevate the team's offense.

Thompson's work will do the talking for him.
