Kevin Durant hints at 2 Mavericks players he'd love to team up with
By Noah Weber
1. Klay Thompson
While anyone could have expected that Kevin Durant would have chosen Kyrie Irving to be on his dream starting five, he chose Klay Thompson. Durant wanted a bigger shooter on the wing, and he went with Thompson.
Last season, Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting 38.7 percent from downtown. This was considered a "down year" for Thompson, but he still commands the respect of his peers due to his unbelievable shooting.
Thompson is one of the best catch-and-shoot players to ever play the game, and he would be a deadly duo with Durant. Both players are unbelievable shooters, but they also can both create their own offense. Durant is obviously much better at that than Thompson is, but Thompson can create his own shot when needed. He can get to the rim and hit one-dribble pull-up jumpers off closeouts, and Luka Doncic sharing the floor with him and Durant would be an incredible big three.
Durant is one of the greatest scorers to play the game, and him sharing the floor with Thompson and Doncic is wild to think about. The defense would be so focused on stopping Durant and Doncic that Thompson would be getting countless open looks.
Thompson is an easy plug-and-play player due to his ability to hit open shots, and Mavs fans should be excited about his fit next to Doncic.
