Mavericks acquire Jerami Grant in mock blockbuster trade with Blazers
In this mock blockbuster trade between the Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trail Blazers, the Mavs acquire the third star and scorer that the team desperately needs.
The Mavs made it to the NBA Finals without a solidified third scorer, but this deal ensures that this won't remain a problem again next year. Dallas' lack of shooting and their lack of a third scorer was an issue this season, and this deal ensures that this won't persist into the 2024-25 season.
In this deal, Dallas ships out Tim Hardaway Jr., Maxi Kleber, and Josh Green along with two second-round picks for Jerami Grant and Matisse Thybulle. This is a huge haul from Dallas, and this deal allows Portland to get off Grant's massive contract while gaining some draft capital and three rotation players.
Dallas would be acquiring a hopeful third star in Grant and a role player in Thybulle while shipping off two key pieces in Green and Kleber. With the new CBA, trades are increasingly getting harder in the NBA, but this could be the type of deal that gets the Blazers to trade away Grant.
Dallas is looking to trade Hardaway Jr., and this move finally allows him to get a new start. He was frustrated with his role during the playoffs, and it seems extremely unlikely that he will remain a Maverick going into next season.
This trade also allows the Mavs to land Grant as they've been linked to him this offseason. Dallas has been interested in a trade for Grant for a while now, and in this case, they finally land their guy.
Next we'll grade the trade for each team involved and discuss how it'd affect each team involved.
