One of the Dallas Mavericks' best moves of the offseason was the three-team trade that landed them Grant Williams and two second-round picks. This trade landed Dallas a new wing defender with size, but they did lose one of their best guard defenders in the process.
Reggie Bullock was one of Dallas' key pieces during the 2022 Western Conference Finals run, and they sent him to San Antonio along with a first-round pick swap as part of the trade.
This wasn't ideal, as Bullock was one of Dallas' key guard defenders, but it will likely be worth it in the end as Williams is young and provides a level of tenacity and leadership that Bullock didn't have.
Report: Former Mavericks 3-and-D wing to sign with Rockets
The Spurs ended up waiving Bullock, and now he is planning to sign with a different team in the Lone Star State.
According to a report by The Athletic's Shams Charania, "Bullock plans to sign with the Houston Rockets after he clears waivers."
Bullock has bounced around all three teams in the state of Texas over the last few months, and it looks like Houston will be his final stop of the offseason. Last season for Dallas, Bullock averaged 7.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 0.7 steals per game while shooting 38.0 percent from downtown.
Bullock started in 55 of the 78 games he played last season, and his departure allows Josh Green and or Olivier-Maxence Prosper to take over that role on the wing. Dallas' bench does need one more guard defender, but Dallas has some players that can hopefully lessen the blow left by Bullock's defense and shooting.
Mavericks fans' first chance to see Bullock play against his former team will be on November 28 at the American Airlines Center.
