The Dallas Mavericks are in a great spot heading into the 2024-25 season.

With preseason less than a week away, fans can't wait for the Mavs to take the floor for the first time. Media Day helped begin the excitement for fans, and the next week is going to help that excitement go up even more.

Dallas is in Las Vegas for training camp for the next couple of days, and Jason Kidd planned for this year's training camp to be intense, with multiple two-a-days for practice.

This training camp is also going to be extremely competitive since the starting lineup is fluid right now. Players will want to fight for minutes and to rise in the pecking order, and yesterday was players' first chance to do that.

While Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and Dereck Lively II look to be the guaranteed starters, the rest is up in the air. It is going to be a fun next couple of weeks to see who starts this season, but many players who start this season may not start five years from now.

Looking ahead to the future, the Mavs' starting lineup could look very different from what we see today.

Point guard: Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic has been the franchise pretty much ever since he got drafted, and that won't change any time soon. Doncic is eligible for a huge extension after this season, and the Mavs will likely do whatever they can to ensure that Doncic stays with Dallas as long as possible.

Last season, Doncic averaged 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists per game while shooting 48.7 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from downtown, and he ended up getting third in MVP voting. Doncic continues to be one of the best offensive players the league has ever seen, and he'll only get better as the years go on.

Doncic's improvement on the defensive end and as a shooter were also huge helps in him taking another step as a player last season, and he and the Mavs will have their best shot at winning a title yet due to the new supporting cast.

In five years, Doncic will be 30 years old and hopefully have a ring with the Mavs or an MVP. If he can stay healthy, Doncic's game should age well, and he could be the solitary face of the league at this point if he continues to dominate.

Mavs fans should be excited about the future with Doncic at the helm, and him not being the starting point guard for Dallas in five years would be tragic.
