The Dallas Mavericks are already gearing up for the jersey retirement of Dirk Nowitzki on Jan. 5. It will be a night that fans will not want to miss because owner Mark Cuban always puts on a show. There will be tributes, giveaways, and so much more on the special and emotional night.

Nowitzki is back with the Mavericks as a special advisor to Cuban. He had a hand in selecting the new general manager and president of basketball operations Nico Harrison and head coach Jason Kidd. Dirk is not back working with the team full-time, but his role will expand to handle whatever the Tall Baller from the G wants it to be. Cuban did note that Dirk will have an office at the team’s practice facility.

Nowitzki is also an ambassador for the NBA as they celebrate their 75th anniversary. He will be a key part of the All-Star game in February as the league honors their past, present, and future this year, which includes looking back at some of the best plays. They got Dirk to react to one of his dunks and the results were hilarious. Let us take a closer look.

Dirk Nowitzki has priceless reaction to a throwback poster dunk

The NBA posted a video featuring players’ reactions to their dunks, and Dirk was first up. He was excited to see his slam before noting that it was “one of my few dunks”. Fans have to see his reaction, including acknowledging that he posterized Vin Baker.

Nowitzki had 397 dunks in his 21-year NBA career, but he slammed home just 42 over his final nine seasons. Younger fans never got a chance to see Dirk at the peak of his athletic powers. He was throwing down jams and running up and down the court. Nowitzki always improved his games and found ways to be great even as his athleticism slipped, which is a testament to his legendary status.

There is never a poor time to celebrate Dirk Nowitzki, and it was fantastic to see his reaction to a throwback dunk. Expect to see plenty more of him this season as the NBA celebrates its 75th anniversary. Dallas Mavericks fans will not want to miss it, so stay tuned.
