The Dallas Mavericks announced that they are making updates to their practice facility (subscription required) on Nov. 11. The team is currently holding workouts at the court under the American Airlines Center until the renovations are complete. New general manager Nico Harrison pushed for the upgrades to give the Mavs a competitive edge.
Owner Mark Cuban had a chat with reporters on a wide range of topics before Sunday afternoon’s game in Los Angeles. There was talk about the new ball impacting shooting, the Mavericks start, and more. Cuban also dropped a piece of interesting news on Nov. 21.
Dirk Nowitzki was hired as a special advisor to Cuban over the summer. The Mavs GOAT had a hand in picking new head coach Jason Kidd and GM Harrison as he gets back to work with the only organization he ever played for, and that role could be expanding.
Dirk Nowitzki will have an office at the Mavericks new practice facility
Cuban was asked if Nowitzki was enjoying his retirement, and fans can see the owner’s quote below.
"I think he’s getting antsy. But I can tell you this…I’ll break one piece of news. Dirk has an office in the new practice facility."
There was a follow-up question about how much the legend will use it, and Cuban responded by saying, “it’s up to him just like it always is”.
This is the third season since Dirk hung up his sneakers, and the Tall Baller from the G has been enjoying his post-playing career. Nowitzki has been focused on his foundation, traveling, and enjoying the small things in life that were not possible during his 21-year NBA grind, but it sounds like Nowitzki is getting the basketball itch back.
Dirk Nowitzki will forever be a Dallas Maverick. It will be interesting to see how his role with the team expands in the years to come, and fans should keep it locked to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest.
