Player who won’t last the entire 2022-23 season with Dallas Mavericks: 1. Tim Hardaway Jr.

The Mavs shopped THJ at last season’s trade deadline and during the offseason. They know the market for the 30-year-old wing, but things could change if Hardaway Jr. bounces back this season.

He struggled last season before suffering a season-ending foot injury in January. The team was just starting to take off before THJ went down. He played 42 games last season where he averaged just 14.2 points. His steals, assists, and rebounds per game were up, but Hardaway Jr. shot 39.4 percent from the field and made just 33.6 percent of his threes. It was not his best showing before having foot surgery that ended his season.

How does THJ fit in coach Kidd’s system? He was an elite 3-point shooter in coach Rick Carlisle’s offense but struggled with the changes last season. Will Hardaway Jr. knock down his jumpers at a high clip this season?

The Dallas Mavericks will look to package Tim Hardaway Jr. with another contract to acquire an upgrade. Can they find a taker? THJ is the most likely player to move if the Mavericks acquire a player making $20-plus million this season.

The Mavs could wait to chase a big fish in the offseason because they will have all of their future first-round picks, but if they acquire an upgrade before the deadline, THJ could be sent packing. Stay tuned to see how it all plays out.
