At the NBA trade deadline, the Dallas Mavericks made two massive moves.
The first move came early in the morning when the team traded for Daniel Gafford. This deal took until the early afternoon to get finalized, and Dallas found their backup center of the future in Gafford.
Later that day, Dallas traded for P.J. Washington.
Warriors star Draymond Green brutally roasts former Mavericks forward
In this deal, Dallas sent the Charlotte Hornets Grant Williams, Seth Curry, and their 2027 first-round pick. Curry hadn't been as great as expected for the Mavs, and Williams is someone who the organization was trying to get rid of at the trade deadline.
The Mavs had soured on Williams, and part of that reason was for his "yapping."
Williams showed toughness for the Mavs, but he oftentimes took it too far. He would pick up unneeded technical fouls and would be overly physical when he got angry, which would lead to more unneeded fouls.
Williams underperformed during his time as a Maverick but has been playing better in Charlotte. As a Hornet this season, Williams is averaging 17 points and five rebounds per game while shooting 39.4 percent from downtown.
Although Williams is off to a hot start, he recently got flamed by Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green after the Hornets played the Warriors this past weekend.
At the end of the game, Lester Quinones tried to lay the ball up with less than 15 seconds remaining in the game. Golden State was up by 11 points, but there was a two-second difference between the shot clock and the game clock. The Warriors could either take the turnover or shoot a shot, and they decided to score.
Quinones tried to lay it up, and Miles Bridges got called for goaltending. The Hornets were not happy that the Warriors scored because they broke an "unwritten rule" and Williams confronted Quinones immediately. He went nose to nose with him and was jawing with many of the Warriors.
After the game, Green flamed Williams.
"Grant Williams gotta stop it, man," Green said. "Being this tough guy is going absolutely wrong for him. Like he's a really nice guy. For some reason, he keeps trying to jump on the unlikeable side...Talking too much kinda got you out of Dallas."
Green hit the nail on the head with his overall assessment of Williams' antics this year, and he also went into more detail and explained why the Warriors took the layup.
Dallas got rid of Williams at the right time, and, unfortunately, he couldn't live up to the expectations that everyone had for him after the Mavs traded for him.
For all the latest on the Dallas Mavericks this season, stay tuned.
