The Dallas Mavericks trade rumors have the tea kettle erupting they are so hot. Kyrie Irving requesting a trade and being linked to Dallas has stolen all of the NBA headlines. The eight-time All-Star is the star player that Dallas covets, but would they be willing to take on his baggage? Fans should consider the trade unlikely, but the Mavericks were linked to a veteran wing that could help them amidst the Irving drama.

Bogdan Bogdanovic is rumored to be on the market, and Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports noted the Mavs have interest in him and the unrelated Bojan Bogdanovic. The Bojan rumors are not new, but Bogdan has not been linked to Dallas this season.

The Mavericks could use another wing that can handle the ball and help with the playmaking duties. Bogdan Bogdanovic fits that bill, and he could be a difference-maker in Dallas. Here is the latest on the 30-year-old wing’s market, and what it would likely cost the Mavericks to acquire him before the Feb. 9 trade deadline.

Dallas Mavericks trade rumors: Dallas interested in Bogdan Bogdanovic

The Athletic’s Sam Amick reported (subscription required) that “half the league is calling” on Bogdanovic. The Hawks are facing luxury tax concerns, and Bogdanovic has an $18 million player option for next season. If he opts out, the team acquiring would be willing to pay him, but it likely won’t come cheap as the 30-year-old is averaging 15.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game this season.

It would take a first-round pick plus to get the Hawks to part with Bogdanovic. Dallas has been hesitant to part with a first-rounder because they want to keep their powder dry for the offseason when they can go star hunting. They owe their 2023 first-round draft pick to the Knicks from the original Kristaps Porzingis trade in 2019. After that selection conveys, the Mavs will have a full cupboard of first-round picks available to trade.

The Mavericks need a second star next to Luka to become serious title contenders. Bogdanovic does not fit that role, and he likely costs too much to make the trade worthwhile for Dallas.

The Dallas Mavericks are going to be active and aggressive ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline. They will be calling every team and gauging the market on every available player. Dallas needs more talent around Luka Doncic, and trading for it is their only avenue for the next few years. Can the Mavericks find the right deals? Stay tuned to find out.
