Takeaway from Dallas Mavericks loss to Suns: 1. Luka brought the magic
Luka Doncic did not waste any time getting his season off on the right foot. The 23-year-old superstar had 13 first-quarter points, including this unbelievable trickery for a lay-in.
Doncic had it all going on opening night in Phoenix. He was aggressive in trying to get to the rim, and the 6’7 guard always made the right play. When the Suns doubled, Luka gave the ball up, and the Mavericks' offense rolled to 62 first-half points.
Mikal Bridges attempted to pick up Doncic full-court for most of the night, and the Suns threw a bunch of different looks at the Mavs superstar, but none of it mattered. Even when Phoenix played stout defense, there was no stopping Luka. See an incredible make that is impossible to describe below.
Luka finished with 35 points, nine rebounds, six assists, one steal, and four turnovers in 37 minutes of action. The 23-year-old superstar was a perfect ten of ten from the foul line, but the Mavericks were outscored by 16 with Doncic on the floor. They struggled to contain Booker and Ayton, and Dallas has plenty of work to do moving forward.
The Dallas Mavericks are back in action on Saturday night for their home opener against the division-rival Memphis Grizzlies. It will be Luka Doncic versus Ja Morant in another battle of two of the best teams in the West, so do not miss it.
