The Dallas Mavericks made one of the biggest trades in franchise history at the trade deadline last season as they sent Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and multiple draft picks to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris.

This move depleted the Mavericks' depth, but having the chance to land a superstar like Irving doesn't happen often. Dallas doesn't typically land the big-fish free agents during the summer, so they decided to test their luck on the trade market and pursue Irving.

Although the Mavs didn't make the playoffs and struggled after Irving and Morris joined the Mavs, it looks like they'll both be coming back.

Report: Mavericks to sign NBA Champion forward to contract

The Mavs re-signed Kyrie Irving on the first night of free agency to a three-year contract, and Morris is coming back too.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that Dallas is planning to re-sign Morris to a contract. In eight games for Dallas last season, Morris averaged 4.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game. He was dealing with injuries during most of his tenure in Dallas and never fully showed what he could do for this team.

Morris likely isn't going to be a guy who will play every night (even when fully healthy), but he brings a veteran presence to this locker room and can step in and help when needed. Morris is a good floor spacer and shot 39.4 percent from three last season.

Hopefully, Morris can shoot that efficiently next season, and Mavs fans could get to see him a little bit more, as he should be fully recovered from the lingering injuries that held him back last season. Morris also has 50 games of playoff experience and is a one-time NBA Champion.

The Mavs need more playoff experience, and hopefully Morris is part of the reason that Dallas returns to the playoffs next season.

It was also reported today that the Mavericks are planning to waive JaVale McGee, so the re-signing of Morris should round out the 15-man roster (barring any trades).

We'll have you covered with all the latest news and rumors surrounding Markieff Morris and the Dallas Mavericks this summer, so stay tuned.
