Dallas Mavericks rumors: Interest in Rudy Gobert if he becomes available
By Tyler Watts
The Dallas Mavericks are one of the hottest teams in the NBA right as they have won five of their last six as they climbed to third in the Western Conference. Luka Doncic and company want homecourt in the first round as they look to win their first playoff series since bringing home the title in 2011.
Utah Jazz are going in the opposite direction. They have lost five of their last six to slip back to fifth in the West. The Jazz will need to win games down the stretch to avoid falling to sixth and facing the Mavs in the first round. Rudy Gobert is one of the league’s best big men, and Donovan Mitchell is an elite scorer, but things are just not working out in Utah.
Tim MacMahon joined Zach Lowe on the Lowe Post podcast that dropped on April 1 where they discussed the Jazz. Utah continues to slip in the standing, and MacMahon thinks significant changes are coming if they get knocked out in the first round again, which brought about a Mavericks rumor.
Rumors: Dallas Mavericks interested in Rudy Gobert this offseason
MacMahon made it clear that Gobert wants to stay in Utah, but he was quick to name the Mavericks as a suitor if the Jazz are looking to move on. The ESPN scribe even noted that he heard from both internal and exterenal sources that Dallas would have interest in Gobert, and that the 7’1 big man would enjoy playing with Luka Doncic. MacMahon said the Mavericks “would be aggressive” if the Jazz center becomes available.
The Mavs have a need a rim protector after the Kristaps Porzingis trade at the deadline. Gobert is one of the league’s best, and he would be an outstanding pick and roll partner for Luka. Will the Mavericks have enough to land Gobert if Utah makes him available? Even if they don't, it won’t stop them from trying.
The Dallas Mavericks are looking to make a run in the playoffs, but expect the rumors to be flying hot and heavy as the regular season winds down. Stay tuned to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest on Luka and the Mavs.
