The Dallas Mavericks hired Igor Kokoskov as an assistant coach last summer. He left a head coaching gig at Fenerbahce to come to Dallas and reunite with superstar Luka Doncic, who he coached to a EuroBasket title in 2017 with the Slovenian National Team. The 50-year-old teamed with Kidd to help Luka take his game to another level as the Mavs reached the Western Conference Finals.

Kokoskov will not be back with the Mavericks next season as Marc Stein reported he is joining the Brooklyn Nets coaching staff under Steve Nash. The pair of now-former Mavs have a previous relationship from their days together in Phoenix.

Kokoskov will be missed in Dallas, but he gives Brooklyn a veteran former head coach on Nash’s staff as the Nets look to rebound next season and jump back into title contention. The Mavericks now have a vacancy on their coaching staff, but who could fill it?

Rumors: Nets to hire Igor Kokoskov: Who could replace him in Dallas?

The Mavericks will be looking for an assistant that moves the needle as they attempt to take another step forward. Three recently fired head coaches immediately jump to mind as interesting to fill the role under Kidd.

Frank Vogel is looking for work after being fired by the Lakers, and the Hall of Fame point guard often credits Vogel for helping him change his coaching philosophy. They won a championship together in LA in 2020. Could the Vogel and Kidd reunite in Dallas next season?

Former Hornets head coach James Borrego and former Blazers head coach Terry Stotts are both also available. Stotts was an assistant under head coach Rick Carlisle in Dallas from 2008 to 2012. Could the veteran head coach return to the Mavericks to work with Luka? Does Kidd offer Borrego a gig after his success developing the young Hornets?

There will be no shortage of coaches interested in joining the Dallas Mavericks to work with Luka Doncic. Hopefully, things work out well for Igor Kokoskov in Brooklyn, and stay tuned for the latest on who could replace him in Dallas.
