Rumors: NBA Insider gives revealing update on Mavericks' trade deadline focus
By Noah Weber
After Thursday night's win over the New York Knicks, the Dallas Mavericks are 23-16 on the season as the halfway point quickly approaches.
The injury bug has hit Dallas hard over the last few months, and last night they were without Luka Doncic, Dante Exum, Dereck Lively II, and Maxi Kleber. All four of those players are rotation players, and Dallas still found a way to win with them on the bench.
Although Dallas is playing at a high level when at their best, they may need to make at least one move to enter the tier of being true contenders.
Rumors: NBA Insider gives revealing update on Mavericks' trade deadline focus
The Mavs have multiple glaring holes, and the trade deadline is the perfect way to fix that.
It's known that Dallas wants to upgrade at the power forward position, and an NBA Insider recently gave an update that opens up another group of possible players that the Mavs target.
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that "Dallas wants an upgrade at the four slash three, I’ve heard."
This may not seem like a major update at all, but this is the first time that it has been reported that Dallas is looking to upgrade at the small forward spot as well. This expands possible trade targets for the Mavs by a significant amount and shows that they aren't just focused on adding a big body down low to play with Dereck Lively II.
Some of the power forwards that Dallas has been linked to so far are Pascal Siakam and Jerami Grant, but this new intel from Scotto could make fans start speculating about Dorian Finney-Smith again.
Siakam is the true power forward of the group, but Finney-Smith and Grant's ability to play both positions could intrigue Dallas. The Mavs need another wing almost as badly as they need another big body down low, and adding one of the aforementioned players could turn Dallas into NBA Finals contenders, depending on what they have to get up.
For all the latest on the Dallas Mavericks and their potential pursuit of Pascal Siakam, Jerami Grant, and Dorian Finney-Smith, stay tuned.
