The 2024 NBA Playoffs will begin in a few days as the Dallas Mavericks' matchup with the LA Clippers begins on Sunday afternoon, but the season has ended for many teams across the league.

Last night, the Sacramento Kings took down the Golden State Warriors in the Play-In Tournament, ending Golden State's season.

This early postseason exit has forced fans to start to question the Warriors' core, and one of their key players from the last 13 seasons could be on the move this summer.

Rumors: Mavericks linked to Klay Thompson in free agency

According to Shams Charania, Klay Thompson is open to testing the waters of free agency this summer. Thompson has been in Golden State since 2010, and this summer may be the time that he finally signs with a different team.

The Mavericks have much bigger things to worry about right now as their first-round series against the Clippers starts in a few days, but they are a team that has already been linked to Thompson (subscription required) as a free-agency destination according to Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Dallas would likely have to acquire Thompson through a sign and trade due to their lack of cap space, but he could be the exact piece that they need to get their 3-point shooting back where it needs to be.

This season for the Warriors, Thompson averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 0.6 steals per game while shooting 43.2 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from three. Thompson isn't the same player he once was, but a new start in Dallas could be perfect for both sides.

The Mavs would be adding one of the best shooters of all time who can also defend while also giving Thompson a new start. Playing next to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving while also not having too much of an offensive load could re-spark Thompson's career, and the Mavs desperately need more 3-point shooting, especially off the bench.

It's unclear how much interest the Mavs will show in Thompson this summer, but it is clear that they're a team to watch out for.
