Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and rumors of him joining the Lakers have been circulating for months. It is no secret that he wants to team back up with LeBron James after the duo won a title together in Cleveland in 2016.

Irving has been coy on his free agency plans, and he is still exploring the market. The eight-time All-Star wants a max contract, but can he find one? His turbulent three-plus years in Brooklyn did him no favors, but Kyrie is unquestionably one of the most talented players in the NBA.

Irving has a different plan of playing with LeBron again as Shams Charania reported that he is trying to get James to agree to join him in Dallas next to Luka Doncic. Chris Haynes followed with a report about Kyrie’s desires for the Mavericks to trade for LeBron this summer.

Mavericks rumors: Is Kyrie Irving devising plan to bring LeBron James to Dallas?

It will not be easy to link up the three superstars this summer, especially with the NBA’s new second tax apron being factored in. James is set to make $46.9 million next season, and he has a $50.6 million player option for the 2024-25 season. The Mavericks would have to stack a bunch of contracts to get James on their books, but it is not impossible. No team is saying no to trading role players for LeBron.

Acquiring LeBron would also force Kyrie Irving to take a pay cut. Would the 31-year-old point guard be willing to do that to get James to Dallas?

It appears so. Kyrie is accepted to sign a new shoe deal this summer as well that will likely bring him significant money. That would pave the way for the Mavericks to swing for LeBron and form a Big 3 in Dallas and make the franchise the talk of the NBA world.

This is a developing story, and there will certainly be plenty more to come. Does LeBron James want to join the Dallas Mavericks? King James has never been shy in praising Luka Doncic, and his desire to play with Kyrie Irving again is clear. Could this pave the way for the biggest blockbuster of the summer? LeBron needs to be surrounded by ball-handlers at this stage of his career, and the Mavs have two elite ones. Stay tuned for all the latest.
