With NBA free agency slowing down, most basketball fans' focus has shifted to Summer League.

The Dallas Mavericks began their Summer League journey with a narrow loss to the Utah Jazz, but some of their young players showed flashes that they can contribute for Dallas soon. Brandon Williams finished with 21 points, and second-round pick Melvin Ajincca finished with 13 points.

There are plenty of players on the Mavs Summer League team who could end up making the final roster, but Dallas needs to be smart about how they use that final roster spot.

Mavericks bring in Malachi Flynn for a workout following rumored interest

They reportedly want to upgrade their backcourt depth off the bench, and one player who they've been linked to is Malachi Flynn.

The original reports about Dallas showing interest in Flynn date back to earlier this month, and according to Dalton Trigg of Dallas Basketball, the Mavs have worked out Flynn.

This shows that Dallas' interest in Flynn from earlier this month is valid, and they continue to weigh their options on exactly who they want to sign with that final roster spot.

They have shown interest in a handful of guards such as Spencer Dinwiddie, Dennis Smith Jr., and Flynn, but there have also been reports that they will likely re-sign Markieff Morris.

This 15th roster spot may be overlooked by most, but it's definitely a way for this team to improve. Dallas is fresh off a loss in the NBA Finals, and the right move here could elevate their roster even more.

If Dallas were to sign Flynn, they'd be landing a young point guard who can light up the scoreboard, and his balanced scoring attack would definitely be utilized for the Mavs. Last season, Flynn averaged 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game while shooting 41.8 percent from the field, and his best game was against the Atlanta Hawks as he dropped 50 points.

Flynn's scoring is extremely underrated, and his ball handling allows him to get to his spots all over the floor. He is a solid shooter off the catch and off the dribble as well and plays with confidence.

There is obviously a level of interest in Flynn considering the Mavs worked him out, and only time will tell if Dallas decides to work him out.

For all the latest on the Dallas Mavericks and their rumored free agency interest in Malachi Flynn, stay tuned.
