The Dallas Mavericks want to upgrade their roster around Luka Doncic ahead of the Feb. 9 trade deadline, but that is complicated as they still owe their first-round pick to the Knicks from the original Kristaps Porzingis trade. Dallas would love to add a second star, but they will need a full cupboard of first-round picks to make that a reality. Do the Mavs make smaller upgrades now or wait until the offseason to go big fish hunting?
General manager Nico Harrison and his front office are working the phones and plan to be aggressive. Dallas is rumored to have interest in New York Knicks wing Cam Reddish. Marc Stein reports that the Mavericks have joined the Bucks and Lakers as suitors for the 23-year-old (subscription required).
Reddish fits the price tag as the Knicks are looking for a second-round pick and salary matching, according to Stein. The problem with the deal on Dallas’ end is the player the Knicks want in return for the 6’8 wing.
Rumors: Dallas Mavericks in trade talks with Knicks on Cam Reddish
Stein notes that the Knicks are asking for Reggie Bullock with a second round to acquire Reddish. Bullock is the better player right now and the better current fit on the Mavericks roster. It seems unwise to deal him for Reddish, especially when the 23-year-old is a subpar shooter that needs time to work on his game.
The Knicks appear motivated to move on from Cam Reddish before he heads into restricted free agency this summer. He is not re-signing in New York, and the Knicks would like to recoup some value for the 6’8 wing.
Will the Dallas Mavericks be the team that acquires Reddish before the Feb. 9 trade deadline? Will his new team extend him or wait to match his offer in restricted free agency? Cam Reddish is one of the many players to watch as the deadline approaches, and stay tuned to The Smoking Cuban for all the latest Mavs rumors.
