The Dallas Mavericks are searching for wing help this summer. Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock were both forced to play massive postseason minutes as they chased around the opposition’s top scorers in the team’s run to the Western Conference Finals. The Mavs need more cover as they look to make another deep playoff run.

Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer mentioned the Mavericks as one of two teams interested in trading for Matisse Thybulle in his latest rumors piece. The Sixers want to add P.J. Tucker in free agency, and they are looking to clear some space to make that happen.

Thybulle is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is widely regarded as one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA. He is eligible for a rookie extension this summer, so the Mavericks could trade for the 25-year-old wing and lock him up to a long-term deal.

Rumors; Dallas Mavericks interested in Matisse Thybulle trade

Thybulle is an outstanding defender, but his offensive game is a work-in-progress. He is a below-average shooter that does not offer much on that end of the floor. Thybulle averaged just 5.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 25.5 minutes per game last season for the Sixers.

The Mavericks have helped multiple players transform their jumpers in recent years, including Dorian Finney-Smith and Maxi Kleber. Could they help Thybulle become a league-average 3-point shooter? If so, he becomes a valuable piece that any team would be excited to employ.

Acquiring the Sixers wing will likely not come cheap after he finished eighth in the NBA in FiveThirtyEight’s defensive RAPTOR. The 6’5 wing can defend multiple positions and would be the defensive stopper Dallas is searching for off the bench.

What will the Dallas Mavericks do to replace Jalen Brunson if he signs with the Knicks? Fans won’t have to wait long as free agency opens on June 30. Expect the Mavs to be aggressive, and stay tuned for all the latest.
