Roster turnover

Tired of a seemingly unchanging roster? Luckily for those who are, Dallas has seven players who are pending free agents.

Of course, Kyrie Irving is among that number, and the Mavericks will put most of their attention on re-signing him. However, Nico Harrison has strongly implied that most of the rest will not be back for next season.

Rejoice, for this means new players with hypothetically untapped potential that probably will not be as good as fans hope. Remember when straight-up Reggie Bullock for Cam Reddish was a thing?

I kid, I kid. In the interest of optimism, it was obvious that Dallas’ current roster is not constructed well enough to support their two offensive planets. Not every free agent that they sign will be a home run, but they don’t need them to be. Just one or two good signings could go a long way in the roster rehaul, depending on how their other talents develop.

Things could still go wrong. The pick could fall. Irving could decide to sign elsewhere. No doubt the franchise and Mark Cuban have not given fans much reason to believe in their decision-making. Until they make another mistake though, there’s no harm in having a little bit of hope.
