Dallas Mavericks' realistic ceiling and floor for the 2024-25 season
By Jake Ferraro
Ceiling: Top seed in the Western Conference
The Mavericks have a deep roster filled with talent to run the Western Conference and clinch the top seed in the conference. One key talent of course is Luka Doncic. Entering this season, he will have his eyes on silencing the critics and taking home his first MVP award. Having his sidekick Kyrie Irving and newly acquired Klay Thompson make Dallas deeper than before.
While having the Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves who all finished ahead of the Mavericks in the regular season last season, history could repeat again for the Mavericks as it did back in 2007.
When the Mavericks fell to the Miami Heat in the 2006 NBA Finals, the Mavericks showed the NBA they weren't a fluke. The Mavericks finished with the best record in the NBA, and Dirk Nowitzki won the 2007 MVP.
The Mavs fell in the 2024 NBA Finals with a talented MVP player in Doncic, and both the team and Doncic will be eager to silence critics that the team isn't a fluke.
Most people can see the West wide open to be won. Last season , the defending NBA champion Nuggets didn't clinch the top seed. The Thunder shocked the NBA and clinched the top seed in the West. The Mavericks are capable of taking a big jump from being a fifth seed last season to a top seed in 2025. Having a Finals loss adds big fuel for the Mavericks to run the West.
