The Dallas Mavericks had an up-and-down offseason. It started on a high note by trading four players outside their playoff rotation and their 2022 first-round pick for Christian Wood, but things got worse as Jalen Brunson left to join the Knicks in free agency. Dallas got zero return for their second-best player as the Mavericks failed to work out a sign-and-trade.

The Mavs drafted Jaden Hardy, signed Tyler Dorsey to a two-way contract, and used the majority of their mid-level exception to add JaVale McGee. Tim Hardaway Jr. will be returning from his season-ending injury as Dallas looks to build on their trip to the conference finals. They still have Luka Doncic, so do not count them out.
