The Dallas Mavericks are in the middle of one of the most productive offseasons in team history, as they are fully invested on improving their core around Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving to compete for a title again next season.

They've made moves that have tremendously raised the ceiling for this team, as it looks like they'll be one of the favorites in the Western Conference once again.

While their biggest move was signing Klay Thompson, they made a different move a couple of days before signing Thompson that could be a much bigger addition than people realize.

Quentin Grimes focusing on improving his playmaking in Dallas

Dallas traded Tim Hardaway Jr. and three second-round picks to the Detroit Pistons for Quentin Grimes, and Grimes has the potential to be an elite role player for Dallas. The Mavs defense immediately improved by adding Grimes, and he is locked in on improving one aspect of his game as a member of the Mavs.

Grimes said that he wants to improve his playmaking with the Mavs, and him taking this part of his game to the next level could make him unstoppable. He is already known as a good 3-point shooter and an excellent defender, but if he learns how to consistently create as well, the sky is the limit.

During his time with the New York Knicks, Grimes definitely showed flashes that he can be a secondary creator. When attacking a closeout, he'd typically make the right read by finishing at the rim or passing to an open teammate, and him continuing to polish this skill would work wonders for the Mavs.

Dallas has excellent lob finishers down low with Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford, and if Grimes can add a consistent lob pass, that would be huge. When attacking the rim, Grimes can either finish at the bucket or hit Gafford or Lively II with a dump-off pass, and he is in the perfect position to grow in that area.

Grimes noted that he wanted to get back to playmaking more like he did some in high school and college, and this team will allow him to do that. It'll also be huge for him if he can improve his reads, as Dallas will have plenty of shooters on the perimeter that will be open if they decide to help off.

Grimes seems invested in making strides as a playmaker in Dallas, and him improving in this area will open up every other part of his game. He's already a great defender and shooter, and him potentially evolving into an initiator over the years would turn him into an elite combo guard.

For all the latest on Quentin Grimes and the Dallas Mavericks all offseason long and heading into next season, stay tuned.
