1 Prospect for every possible Dallas Mavericks 2023 NBA Draft position
By Tyler Watts
Prospect for Dallas Mavericks at number 4 overall: Amen Thompson
Odds to land this selection: 4.0 percent
The Thompson twins are both significant question marks heading into the 2023 NBA Draft because of their lack of competition. They played in the Overtime Elite circuit and dominated, but who were they facing?
Amen Thompson is the favorite to go fourth overall because he is a 6’7 point guard with elite athletic ability. He loves to get his team out in transition. Thompson is going to play fast and look to dissect the defense with his playmaking chops.
The 20-year-old averaged 16.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 2.4 steals in 28.2 minutes per game over 16 contests, according to Tankathon. The 6’7 guard has plus-size and athletic ability, which should allow him to guard multiple positions and make an impact on both ends of the floor.

The Dallas Mavericks would love to add another big playmaker with a versatile skill set. It could be beneficial for both sides as one of Thompson’s biggest knocks is his shooting. Dallas has had success improving jumpers over the years, and Thompson could be the third playmaker behind Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving early on. Amen Thompson could reach his ceiling with the Mavericks and put the rest of the league on notice.
