Dallas Mavericks position battle heading into training camp: 2. Center minutes
The Mavs are going to play a traditional two-big-man lineup for significant stretches throughout the regular season, and Dallas will need a center to step up. Kristaps Porzingis and Maxi Kleber figure to play the most minutes combined between the four and the five leaving these four players to fight it out for the remaining center playing time.
Favorite: Willie Cauley-Stein
Challengers: Dwight Powell, Boban Marjanovic, Moses Brown
Last season, Powell started the most games of this group, but Cauley-Stein lead them in minutes per game at 17.1. Former coach Rick Carlisle played the matchups and was not afraid to change things up if it was not working, but fans do not know if Jason Kidd will use a similar approach.
Moses Brown adds elements of youth and rebounding into this group. The 21-year-old had a 20-point 20-rebound game last season against the Boston Celtics where he displayed his immense potential, but winning a consistent role on a playoff will be more difficult.
This position could be up for grabs during training camp with the winner taking the consistent nightly role. All four players are going to compete hard and have different strengths, so it will be interesting to see which Kidd favors in his rotation and how much his flow changes.
