2. Michael Finley, 2000-2001

In his 15-year NBA career, Michael Finley spent more than half of his career with the Mavericks. In December 1996, Finley was traded by the Phoenix Suns along with Sam Cassel, A.C. Green and a second-round pick for Jason Kidd, Tony Dumas and Loren Meyer.

The trade worked out for the Mavs as in his first five full seasons after the trade, Finley averaged over 20 points per game. The Mavs were still in a playoff drought with Finley reaching his potential.

Finley's potential finally was recognized in the 1999-00 season as he became an All-Star for the first time in his career. The following season, Finley was an All-Star for the second consecutive season. Finley averaged 21.5 points per game, and was a big part of the Mavs ending their decade-long playoff drought.

Unfortunately after 2001, Finley was never an All-Star again, and he would play four more seasons in Dallas. After Dallas, Finley joined the San Antonio Spurs, and the Mavs fans were sick to their stomachs after the Spurs won the 2007 NBA Finals with Finley on the team. Mavs fans had to see a former All-Star of their own win a title with a rival team. That has to be a gut punch.

Finley was done with his NBA career following the 2009-10 season, as he part of the Boston Celtics' Eastern Conference championship team. With him being a two-time All-Star in Dallas, some might feel Finley's number is worthy of being retired by the Mavericks.
