Should the Dallas Mavericks pay Jalen Brunson in free agency?

Paying Jalen Brunson is a no-brainer. In his first four years, the 6’1 guard has worked his way from second-round draft pick to reserve role player to sixth man to unquestioned starter, and he has not even reached his prime. Brunson is one of the hardest workers on the team, and he will keep getting better.

The Dallas Mavericks have to be careful on how much they spend on JB, but giving him a four-year deal worth less than $100 million is a must. Dallas will not be able to replace him if he signs elsewhere in free agency because they do not have cap space. Losing Brunson would put pressure on the Mavericks to make a trade to replace his production.

Brunson has incredible footwork and a crafty game that should age well. He will still be in his prime at the end of his next contract, but the Mavericks should have no qualms about paying JB a lot of money and trying to keep him in Dallas for his entire career. The 25-year-old is a leader that can handle the ball, make plays, shoot, and score 17 points per game. Those players are difficult to find.

Will the Dallas Mavericks re-sign Jalen Brunson this summer? That is totally up to him, but fans can be sure they will make a strong offer and do everything they can to get him to sign on the dotted line.
