Patience if Dallas Mavericks fans are worried about Josh Green

There was some worry by fans on social media about Green not attempting a shot in his 18 minutes of action. On one particular play, the 21-year-old wing passed up a wide-open layup to try a contested pass to the corner, which resulted in a turnover. It was a bad play, and he clearly was not looking for his offense, but Green did draw a foul and went one of two from the free throw line in the second quarter to go with two assists on opening night.

The 6’5 wing had an outstanding defensive game too. He finished with four rebounds, one steal, and one block, but that far from tells the whole story. Green’s hustle and energy were infectious, and the Mavericks produced a 79.4 defensive rating in his 18 minutes on the floor in the opener.

Josh Green worked hard on his game this summer, and those offensive gains will show themselves soon enough. The 21-year-old improved his shooting mechanics and increased his confidence. It did not come out in the season opener, but that is just one of 82 regular season games.

There should be zero worries about Josh Green. He did not score, but his plus-18 was the highest plus-minus on the team in the season opener. Green made the Mavericks better on Wednesday night, and the offense could come as soon as Saturday’s home opener against the Grizzlies.
