1. Working on a new deal for Kyrie Irving

The Dallas Mavericks are pot committed to re-signing Irving in free agency. They gave up two starters and three draft picks to acquire him knowing that he would be an unrestricted free agent this summer. Dallas is committed to keeping him. The only way they can salvage the desperation deal without it would be recouping those assets via a sign-and-trade, but who is giving up a first-round pick, two seconds, and two key starters to acquire him? Only the Lakers would even consider that deal.

Luka Doncic and the front office wanted a second star. It is why they traded for Kyrie, so the Mavericks cannot afford to lose him just four months later. The eight-time All-Star wants a max contract, but can Dallas give him one? His play makes him deserving, but can the franchise count on him to stay active after he gets long-term security?

Re-signing Kyrie is risky for the Mavs, but losing him in free agency is riskier. The front office should already be working with the 30-year-old point guard on a new deal, and it will almost certainly cost the Mavericks north of $200 million to keep Kyrie in Dallas.

It is shaping up to be a crucial offseason for the Dallas Mavericks. They need to improve their roster and move closer to title contention to keep Luka Doncic happy. Can the organization do it? Stay tuned to find out.
