4. Making a plan to solve depth issue

The Mavs only have five players that can be trusted in the playoff rotation. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving have raised their games in the postseason, and both are unquestioned superstars. Reggie Bullock and Maxi Kleber played key roles in the team’s run to the conference finals in 2022. They will lock in on the defensive end and sink open shots. Tim Hardaway Jr. is going to knock down shots, but his defense may limit his playing time a bit in the playoffs.

The Mavs are hoping Josh Green can join that group. He was played off the floor in 2022, but the 22-year-old has significantly improved his jumper and keeps getting better. Green should be trusted in 2024 to handle some role.

Jaden Hardy has shown flashes during his rookie season, but his defense will get exposed in a playoff series. The 20-year-old could make a massive leap on that end of the floor this summer, but short of that, his minutes will have to be reduced in the postseason.

The Dallas Mavericks need to play more than six players in the playoffs, especially if they want to make a deep run. Dwight Powell and Christian Wood are both free agents, but neither can play significant minutes on a team competing for a championship.

Dallas clearly needs another big man and defensive help on the wings. They need more depth for the regular season too, and the front office must have a plan on how to acquire it.
